What is VPS hosting?
VPS hosting gives you a virtual private server: your own virtual machine carved out of a physical server, with its own vCPU, RAM, and NVMe storage. A hypervisor keeps it isolated from other customers, so it behaves like your own machine with root SSH on a Linux image or administrator access on eligible Windows plans.
It is the middle step between shared hosting and dedicated hardware. Shared hosting puts many sites in one environment, while dedicated hosting gives one customer the physical machine. A VPS gives you operating-system control and a defined allocation, with Arct Cloud plans starting at $3.89 a month.
Arct Cloud VPS hosting runs on AMD EPYC Milan 7003 Series, plus AMD Ryzen 9 or AMD EPYC Genoa 9004 Series with DDR5 RAM on High Performance. Every plan includes NVMe storage. Choose from the current data center footprint when you deploy. Linux images are ready in under 30 seconds. DDoS protection is included on every plan.

VPS vs shared vs dedicated
Where a virtual private server sits, and when each option makes sense.
| VPS hosting | Shared hosting | Dedicated server | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Resources | A defined vCPU, RAM, and NVMe allocation | Shared with every site on the server | The whole physical machine |
| Access | Full root / administrator | Control panel only | Full root / administrator |
| Isolation | Own virtual machine | Shared environment | Own physical machine |
| Getting started | Linux images in under 30 seconds | Usually instant | Depends on the provider |

VPS hosting questions
VPS hosting gives you a virtual machine with allocated vCPU, RAM, storage, and its own operating system. You manage it through root SSH with a Linux image or administrator RDP on eligible Windows Server plans.
Shared hosting gives you an account inside a hosting environment managed by the provider. A VPS gives you an operating system and root or administrator access, so you can install and configure your own software.
When to upgrade from shared hostingVPS hosting starts at $3.89/mo for Cost Optimized, $8.39/mo for General Purpose, and $11.99/mo for High Performance. Arct Cloud does not offer a free tier.
A VPS can run websites, APIs, databases, game servers, bots, and Docker workloads. Choose a plan that meets the CPU, memory, storage, and operating system requirements of your software.
Linux images are a practical fit for web stacks, Docker, and most open-source software. Choose Windows Server when you need RDP or a Windows-only application; it requires a plan with 2 or more vCPU. Linux images deploy in under 30 seconds, while eligible Windows Server plans take 2 minutes.
